It seems impossible to visit Tom Sachs’ studio without feeling completely inspired. He has created a world of possibility where space stations can exist alongside Hello Kitty sculptures and paintings in ode to James Brown.
The Space Program made its debut in 2007 at Gagosian, L.A. There, a large scale space station installation equipped with a supply of Jim Beam, Marlboro cigarettes, candles and all things necessary for the above average astronaut, made its voyage to the Moon. In his next project, Sachs is conquering Mars. We can only assume Mars will be the same type of experience, but, this time it will be on view at the Park Avenue Armory in 2012. Here’s a visual preview:
As you enter the studio, you must first have your picture taken and be granted a badge for access.

The White Board is where Sachs leads discussions on all aspects of the Space Station with his team. Nothing is left out of these discussions which include everything ranging from technical specifications to how sexual experiences can take place on the Space Station to the type of nuts that will be served during the journey.
Space Suit
This is what the astronauts wear underneath the space suit to stay cool. There is a tube that cycles cool water through the "long john".

A Dive Planner painting meant to represent Sachs aversion to dating.
James Brown Painting. Sachs considers James Brown to be an inspirational source comparable to God (minus all the bad stuff).
Add a quarter and you can see the plates and bowls James Brown ate from each morning.
This sculpture is an edition of 25.
